Sudbury, Suffolk is an Ancient Market Town.

Sudbury's first known mention as a Market Town was in the Doomsday Book of 1086, however a Royal Charter reveals there was a market in Sudbury as far back as 1009. To read the complete history of Sudbury Market click here.

This vibrant, traditional, outdoor market is still a central part of Sudbury life today. Held every Thursday and Saturday on Market Hill in the centre of town, no visit to Sudbury is complete without soaking up the true character of the town with a mooch around Sudbury Market.

Sudbury’s traditional outdoor street market provides an essential community facility to residents and visitors and is intended to offer not only affordable business opportunities for traders but also ensure a diverse customer experience that complements our high street offer. Our status as an historic market town, trading continuously for over 1,000 years makes our market an integral part of our town’s heritage, economy and community. Ensuring our market continues to thrive and evolve is a priority for Sudbury Town Council.

The Council endeavours to work with members of the public and traders to deliver an excellent customer experience for all who use Sudbury Market and a safe and friendly environment for all traders. With these objectives at the forefront, the regulations set out below must be adhered to by any trader who wishes to trade at the Council’s market.

sudbury plants is 'highly commended' in regional finals and will progress to the national finals!

George Cox, of Sudbury Plants, entered NMTF's Young Traders Awards and got through to the Regional Finals in Bury St Edmunds on 29th July where he won 'Highly Commended' title! This means he will be going through to the finals and is a candidate for Best Young Market Trader. This is an incredible achievement, and Sudbury Plants are an absolute credit to Sudbury Market.
